Things to Do and See

Black Earth Children's Museum - Opened in June 2017. Black Earth Children's Museum is bringing new life to a special & historic location in Black Earth, WI. The building that we are located in was once home to the first cooperative in the United States. The Patrons' Mercantile Co-Op opened April 9, 1894 and then moved to our building in 1897. A fire in 1933 destroyed the original building but it was rebuilt within 9 months of the fire and the Co-Op operated in the building until 1994. Many local residents have stories to share of time spent as a patron of the Co-Op.

Festge County Park - Located in the Driftless Area (unglaciated area) of Dane County and offers a scenic view 100 feet above the Black Earth Creek Valley in the Town of Berry -- one of the more spectacular views in the county.

Old Halfway Prairie Schoolhouse Museum - Halfway Prairie School is the oldest rural elementary school in Dane County. This one-room school was operated from 1844 until it closed as a result of consolidation in 1961. It was given the name of Halfway Prairie because it was halfway between Mineral Point and Portage, a popular transportation route for early miners.

The Shoebox - Midwest's Largest Shoe Store and Bargain Shoe Store.

Rookies - the best neighborhood sports bar and restaurant in the area.

Black Earth Lanes - Bowl a few frames, relax in our bar and watch your favorite sports, enjoy some of our cooked-with-love food, and catch up with your friends or even meet some new ones!  Situated in the heart of the charming community of Black Earth, Wisconsin, Black Earth Lanes has been a part of the community since 1947. Experience some nostalgia…AND have some FUN while you’re at it!
